About You

You are excited to take a company to the next stage. You will make a large impact on the strategy and operations as the business grows, and you are eager to handle increasing complexity. Working alongside the co-founders and core team, you’ll be building financial models, accounting processes, and making sure operations run smoothly as the company scales. You’ll also see all aspects of the business, from marketing to manufacturing. Using data and analysis, you’ll use this “full picture” perspective to make key strategic decisions and help the team grow Monogram to the next level!

Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Design and maintain financial models and sales forecasts, and work alongside CEO to set long term objectives
  • Analysis of historical sales, development costs, manufacturing costs, marketing costs and other key accounts to reduce costs and improve margins
  • Analysis of business trends and market research
  • Work with product R&D, manufacturing, marketing and other business aspects to set budgets and assess project risks
  • Prepare and maintain quarterly guidance and reports for Board of Directors and Shareholders
  • Managing Stock Option Plan

Accounting Processes

  • Reporting of finances and metrics for internal purposes and VC investors
  • Implement internal controls to align with company growth plans
  • Monitoring and receiving of all A/R and A/P activities
  • Manage accounting systems (QuickBooks Online, internal documents)
  • Manage record keeping and documentation for reporting requirements and tax filings (corporate tax, SRED, HST, payroll)
  • Design and establish company-wide processes as the business grows
  • Execute day to day operations of accounting, banking and payroll

Operations

  • Managing cash flow across bank accounts to ensure sufficient capital for manufacturing, R&D, marketing, and timing of seasonal expenditures
  • Manage invoicing with distributors/resellers/customers
  • Manage purchase orders and working with manufacturers on as-needed basis
  • Supporting worldwide logistics and working with fulfillment service providers
  • Controlling inventory and related manufacturing activities
  • Importing/exporting taxation and regulatory compliance

Managing Consultants and Professional Services

  • Accounting firm
  • Bookkeeping
  • Legal counsel on key contracts and financing
  • Banking
  • Insurance

Funding

  • Support venture capital financing activities by preparing reports, forecasts and slide decks
  • Researching and applying to public/government funding programs

Required Skills

  • 2+ years experience in a finance role, CPA/CA designation
  • Bachelor/Masters degree preferred in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Accounting software (Quickbooks Online, Wave, or similar) and other SME/startup tools
  • Demonstrated leadership, creative thinking, and ability to offer innovative ideas
  • Experience in cross-functional teams and fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication; verbal, written, and visual
  • Desire to own and lead a critical aspect of the business and making large impacts on its growth
  • Strong drive for personal development; motivated to learn extremely quickly and grow into an executive position

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in consumer electronics industry
  • Working with retailers, distributors and e-commerce tools
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain
  • Personal passion for design, creativity, and human-computer interaction
